I couldn’t possibly comment on the size of Reggies blowtorch, but “choked” isn’t really an accurate description of the current state of the ice in Beaufort Sea is it?

  2. Dmh says:

The ice extent on the Arctic is close to normal- for this time of the year- and, to be sure, you can check the DMI data
    http://ocean.dmi.dk/arctic/plots/icecover/icecover_current_new.png
    and
    http://ocean.dmi.dk/arctic/plots/icecover/icecover_current.png
    and NORSEX
    http://arctic-roos.org/observations/satellite-data/sea-ice/observation_images/ssmi1_ice_ext.png
The extent is slightly below 2013 and 2012, but considerably higher than the low levels of 2007 and 2011.
2012, during the winter, is the best result since 2005 (possibly 2001, not sure) despite the problems during the summer, because IMO the ice was already recovering back then with close to average values around March-April since 2008.
Some parts of the glacier at N. Canada are already a little above average, especially between Canada and Greenland. Ocean anomalies have been negative in that region since December, but the trend intensified after February.
I estimate the ice extent to be now nearly 500,000 km2 below average and, with good winds and solar radiations favoring us, it could follow a similar path as in 2012 in the next few weeks and be above average at the beginning of April.

      • Send Al to the Pole says:

Jim, you seem like a nice enough sort. Just a little over worried about a problem that doesn’t exist. Your concerns about global financial problems are more realistic.

It won’t matter if the arctic ice completely melted in late summer. It would be right back 3 months later, and the weather patterns we’ve seen over the last ~7 years show there will be no identifiable consequence. Maybe increased shipping in August.

But carbon credits are just another fiat currency. The purveyors of climate doom are more about financial scammery than they are about environmental stewardship.

The carbon economy is the fastest growing industry globally with US$84 billion of carbon trading conducted in 2007, doubling to $116 billion in 2008, and expected to reach over $200 billion by 2012 and over $2,000 billion by 2020…

It does not produce a single penny of wealth and instead acts as a short circuit across the advancement and wealth of an entire civilization. The draft hands effective control of climate change finance to the World Bank; would abandon the Kyoto protocol – the only legally binding treaty that the world has on emissions reductions; and would make any money to help poor countries adapt to climate change dependent on them taking a range of actions.

          2012 World Bank Report Forward:

Turn Down the Heat – Why a 4°C Warmer World Must be Avoided
          November 2012

          FORWARD:
It is my hope that this report shocks us into action. Even for those of us already committed to fighting climate change, I hope it causes us to work with much more urgency.

This report spells out what the world would be like if it warmed by 4 degrees Celsius, which is what scientists are nearly unanimously predicting by the end of the century, without serious policy changes. The 4°C scenarios are devastating: the inundation of coastal cities; increasing risks for food production potentially leading to higher malnutrition rates; many dry regions becoming dryer, wet regions wetter; unprecedented heat waves in many regions, especially in the tropics; substantially exacerbated water scarcity in many regions; increased frequency of high-intensity tropical cyclones; and irreversible loss of biodiversity, including coral reef systems.

And most importantly, a 4°C world is so different from the current one that it comes with high uncertainty and new risks that threaten our ability to anticipate and plan for future adaptation needs…..

While the World Bank is promoting the above hysteria to the USA, EU and the rest of the western world, it is simultaneously taking EU and US tax money and funding the building of new COAL PLANTS in India and China! – – co2scorecard(DOT)org/Content/uploads/WB_Exhibit_1.jpg

International Bankers have a big money stake in CAGW (as do corporations.) Do not forget they are the ones who LEND countries and corporations fiat, created on the spot, money for all those “Green Projects” and the taxpayer pay interest on that funny money with their LABOR. I suggest you read The Broken Window Fallacy by Frederic Bastiat because Windmills and Solar Panels are just a nationwide broken window racket. As well as

Without some knowledge of Fractional Reserve Banking practices, Central banks, the World Bank/IMF Structural Adjustment Programs and gold it is tough to see what the actual game plan is.

          Fractional Reserve Banking
Fractional reserve banking means Joe Sixpack and Suzy Schoolteacher put $1500 each into the bank for a $3,000 total deposit. With todays three percent reserve requirement that means the bank can produce a $100,000 mortgage by making up the other $97,000 using an accounting entry. Today 97% of the US money supply is bank loans only 3% is actual cash. SEE: A PRIMER ON MONEY: by US House Committee on Banking and Currency – – usa-the-republic(DOT)com/banks/Patman_Primer_on_Money.pdf

Congress does the same thing only when they borrow from the Federal Reserve the entire million is an accounting entry and fiat money is created on the spot. Fiat currency in conjunction with fractional reserve lending allows politicians to buy votes and pay off campaign contributors with the Federal Reserve loans. Tax payers get the double whammy of having to pay interest on hot air AND see their wages dwindle because of inflation. Politicians do not even have to raise taxes if there is a graduated income tax. As the wage for the same work goes from $6,000/yr ===> $60,000/yr the tax rate is automatically raised.

A second mechanism is also in place. The selling off of gold. Tony Blair sold off the UK’s gold at rock bottom prices and then later went to work for J P Morgan Chase. The USA’s gold was sold off long ago to bankers but no one outside the Fed knows just what happened and STILL there has been no audit. China on the other hand, being one smart cookie, is grabbing gold as fast as she can. The short and sweet of it is to destroy the dollar as the world reserve currency. Russia and South Africa are also stockpiling gold.

What happens if the US dollar loses world reserve currency status? The creation of a “Global Currency” run by the bankers and possible Hyperinflation within the USA leading to “Currency revulsion” by US citizens and the acceptance of a different currency as happens in any country with run away inflation. Right now the USA has a very bad trade balance thanks to the ratification of the World Trade Organization as well as around a 24% unemployment rate.

So why the heck would bankers want to push the EU and the USA into bankruptcy by supporting idiotic carbon legislation?? ~ Structural Adjustment Programs (SAPs). With a Structural Adjustment Program the Bankers dictate how a country will be run.
          SEE: (wwwDOT)whirledbank.org/development/sap.html
It puts THEM not the voters in charge and bring us another step closer to the ultimate goal of “Gobal Governance”

That is the ONLY reason I can think of for the collusion between Bankers and International Corporations who are actually running this Hoax. They want to get rid of inconvenient National borders, National laws, Sovereignty and the constant bribing of politicians. They want to be completely in charge with out the illusion of democracy except at the local level as a means of keeping the ignorant masses happy.

We can see what is wanted just by looking at the EU. Just ask World Trade Organization Director-General Pascal Lamy: theglobaljournal(DOT)net/article/view/56/ and onlinelibrary(DOT)wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1758-5899.2010.00047.x/full

I have a lot more references on the BRICS countries, world reserve currency and gold. The maneuvering going on in that area is a lot more worrying than the CAGW boogymann

The alarmist way is to make predictions, observe that they didn’t come true, then declare whatever happened as being “consistent with AGW”, and/or declare that their predictions actually did come true, even though they didn’t.

It’s a shame that his beloved PIOMAS omits the areas of substantial above-average ice growth and volume evident this year–St Lawrence seaway and the Great Lakes. Note that the low Latitude for this ice has it reflecting 10 times the sun insolation at this time of year than the missing Barents Ice. It seems to be lowballing the thickness of the MYI in Beaufort as well because it doesn’t show the MYI region consistent with all the other sources.

Of note is the PIOMAS estimated spike in ice volume with thicknesses above 2.5 m for 2014, including an increase in the ice above 4 m for the first time in many years. More multiyear ice. More thick ice. That’s how recoveries start–next year will be particularly interesting.

Those storms in the north Atlantic all removed heat from the ocean and transferred it to high altitude to radiate into space at the top of the atmosphere. Therefore, higher storm count means greater heat loss from the ocean and thus relatively less heat to melt ice in the arctic going forward. Could this be a significant factor in the long term cycle for the temperature in the North Atlantic?

Don’t be too quick to wave about the area and extent for 2014. The values aren’t at maximum yet and the ARC predicted temperature and wind patterns suggest that increases are still coming in Barents, Bering and Okhotski.

Oh, by the way, Jim is infamous for his blog post claiming that all ice was going to be gone in the summer of 2013.

    • Snow White says:

Which “infamous blog post” would that be?

    • Snow White says:

You’ve gone very quiet Crahex! What connection have the Great Lakes got to the Arctic?

      • Crashex says:

They are in the same Global environment. Both involve the reflection of the sun’s insolation back into space off ice formed on the water’s surface. That influences the net heat retained in the water and atmosphere. Note, the term Global in AGW.

Also, the Great Lakes feed the St Lawrence that flows to the Atlantic. The Canadian east coast is likely to be a bit colder a bit longer than usual thus year. With all those reflected BTU’s and all that ice, the region will have a significantly different spring than last year. And the above-average ice on the coast is a marked change from recent years as well.

It’s funny how you only think ice in a particular spot is important.

        • Snow White says:

Note, the term Global in AGW. It’s funny how you only think temperature in a particular spot is important.

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climate/uk/summaries – February 2014 was a mild month with the UK mean temperature 5.2 °C, which is 1.5 °C above the 1981-2010 long-term average, and the number of air frosts among the lowest in the last 50 years.

          http://ocean.dmi.dk/arctic/meant80n.uk.php

        • Crashex says:

So now the reflected insolation on the winter’s ice in the northern hemisphere is dependent on a warm, wet February in the UK?

How much additional heat was carried to the top of the atmosphere by convection and radiated to space to give the UK that extra precipitation? Vaporization and condensation means a lot of extra BTU’s transferred to TOA.

  11. Margaret Berger says:

    Crahex.
I don’t know if Snow White is Jim Hunt but his “voice” does not sound like a person who was born female.
