Interesting article about solar storms from three years ago.
“The world began to end on 12th May 2024, though another 309 years would pass before our species finally went extinct. The apocalypse was not the result of one thing, unless that one thing was that we repeatedly ignored signs that industrial civilisation had become increasingly fragile, even as it grew ever more powerful. But our end very definitely had a trigger. A burst of charged plasma from the sun caused the sudden, simultaneous collapse of numerous electrical grids across the world, setting in motion a cascade of devastating failures from which humanity would never recover.”

If it’s ok with you, I’ll stick with the end of this age and dawning of the eternal Kingdom revealed in the Book by the Creator.
I am pretty sure steps have been taken in recent years.
There have been warnings many times to take this issue more seriously.
Probably our best defense is that there are a lot of people paying very close attention to the Sun, and a large Earth directed CME, or even a small one, will be seen as son as it occurs and there are many hours to a few days to prepare.
The Sun is over 90 million miles away, and we see the light of such flares in less than ten minutes (distance to the Sun divided by speed of light).
If and when the next Carrington event class CME heads our way, and it is surely only a matter of time that one does, we will see it coming many hours ahead of it’s arrival, and we will know it is a giant CME coming straight for us.
IOW, one of these is not gonna sneak up on us, unawares.
On a related topic, wouldn’t it have been cool if a CME had been hitting the Moon right when the eclipse was ongoing?
I bet that would have been quite the sight to see.
I just realized, that Brett friggin Weinstein write a fictional account of a large CME hitting Earth at some time a few years into the future at the time he published it, and he missed the actual timing of an actual large series of such events by only a day or two?
IN fact, from what I was just reading elsewhere, the sunspot group that is causing these CME’s is still shooting out flares, and the worst one has not gotten here yet.
But I am pretty sure it is now rotating away from a position that it can send a large CME straight towards Earth.
I always use “solarham.com” for my daily look at space weather and the progress of the Solar Cycles.
Always up to date, great graphics and pictures, etc.
And BTW, no that we needed any more reasons, this is one big giant reason it is a very very bad idea to make everything electric.
