Long Island usually has tremendous differences in rainfall amounts, more often in summer. The north shore will usually get bigger thunderstorm rainfalls but sometimes east to west also. 2 years ago in Merrick Long Island they had almost 10 inches of rain in 12 hours! While I don’t doubt that Bridgehampton didn’t get 6″ from that storm I’m sure many other Long Island towns did. I have lived on Lond Island all of my life and have taken many weather reports for the local government here, 6″ rainfalls while somewhat uncommon do happen every few years. one thing that stands out is that while overnight winter temperature have risen slightly over the years snowfall has also increased. I personally have noticed that blizzards hit more frequently now then years ago. It will be interesting to see if this trend continues.
