Bigbird is actually a great anology to use. PBS gets only a few percent of its funding from the government. The rest is donations from private citizens and other revenue. The Sesame street brand is probably the most successful franchise PBS has and likely makes a great deal of money from licensing and franchising. So by “saving” Bigbird, the government is directing money to a product that does very well on it’s own commercially.

    Too Bigbird to fail.

  3. John B., M.D. says:

Big Bird is 43 years old and needs to move out of the parents’ nest and get off welfare.

  4. kbray in california says:

Obama is on track to get The Bird on November 6th.

About that New Orleans Video – Mr Obama?
Unlike Wright’s church, the U.S. Senate keeps a record of who was there on a given day. The Congressional Record for May 24, 2007, shows Sen. Barack Obama present that day and voting on the bill that waived the Stafford Act requirement. Moreover, he was one of just 14 Senators who voted against — repeat, AGAINST — the legislation which included the waiver.

When he gave that demagogic speech, in a feigned accent and style, it was world-class chutzpah and a rhetorical triumph. He truly deserves the title Phony in Chief.

If you know any true believers in Obama, show them the transcript of his June 5, 2007, speech at Hampton University (available from the Federal News Service) and then show them page S6823 of the Congressional Record for May 24, 2007, which lists which Senators voted which way on the waiver of the Stafford Act requirement for New Orleans.
Just like the planet, Big Bird is not in need of saving.

All that sugar coated crap from PBS made me want to puke – so I gave up all TV long, long ago. Certainly is a crime they get even a single dime of public money.
