Incredible result for the US, particularly without Altidore.
If they beat Portugal, they go through.

Ghana and US are my daughter’s favorite teams – I haven’t seen the replay yet but she loves their team style. With a US win here it is wide open!
If the Steelers can manage a tie with the Braves, both teams will make it to the Triple Crown this year.
They go nowhere without Altidore. A draw with Portugal should be good enough due to goal difference, but Altidore needs to come back to be some kind of threat against the big teams.
I am glad there are a few Real Science posts that I usually do not bother to open (sorry)
They might even go through with a draw against Portugal considering how many goals Germany put past Ronaldo’s lot.

Altidore was a disappointment for Sunderland last season.
(A Sunderland fan!)
Big IF, but they did step one.
It was a fun evening at the local pub.
The two goals were excellent but our game was like a poor imitation of Italy’s ugly catenaccio (without the Italians’ defensive efficiency). It brought back how much I hate that kind of soccer.
I’m happy the boys showed character to survive the onslaught and grind out a victory but I don’t see how any team could have a successful World Cup run without consistently accurate passing, receiving and creating space. Our next opponents learned from yesterday that pressure can break our possession quickly and this weakness had nothing to do with injuries or Altidore’s absence.
We won the game by a divine efficiency in converting the few chances we had. Has anyone called it a miracle on turf yet?
When is next U.S. match?
Sunday, 6:00 EDT vs. Portugal
Thx. I’ll go set DVR.
The real Ghana players slipped into the US with the other kids…
