The only reason I own a TV is to watch European football on the Fox Soccer Channel. It was great for a few years, but they have started throwing ads up in the middle of the game – which normally block critical stuff going on on the field.
That is bad enough, but about every ten minutes now they show a taxpayer funded Obama campaign ad where he comes on and immediately says “listen up guys – never hit a woman”
Perhaps Michelle has been beating him up?
If soccer were to catch on here like American football, you would have the same endless ads. With these NFL games, the number of ads exceeds the number of plays.

Soccer is by far the world’s most popular sport. Total viewership at World Cups is in excess of 10 billion. No doubt you are right and the rest of the world is wrong.
It beats watching golf anyway.
Even women playing volleyball are clearly soccer fans and mimic the athleticism displayed in the beautiful game. The last time I was in London I took my kids (club players in America) to a local park to watch the amazing skills of even the local men playing in the park. If American men played soccer instead of softball or bowling they wouldn’t be shaped like beer kegs. 🙂 Lastly for those who think soccer is some sort of sissy sport the Illinois High School atheletic records show more fractured legs, damaged achilles, torn hamstrings, head injuries, pelvic fractures, etc in boys high school soccer than any other sport.

Soccer is not a sissy sport. takes great skill and it is a great conditioner, but in my mind any sport where the upper body and arms are not important is not a complete sport. It’s all about cutting ability.
Also, if there are only 7 billion people in the world, how can viewership be 10 billion? Maybe they are watching from Mars and Jupiter. Please excuse my lame sense of humor.

The number is actually closer to 15 billion for the 50+ matches in the world cup. I was being conservative.
