Aw, come on you are being a little bit mean hear on the the alarmists in choosing the coldest place on earth (at least with thermometers) in the middle of winter. Let us be fairer and accept verification as being palm trees growing in a sheltered area on the tip of the Antarctic peninsula. You find something similar in Cornwall, England, where winter daytime averages are around 50F and the warmest summer month around 72F.
Winter temperatures will only have to increase by 80F and summer temperatures by a 40F to get palm trees growing. With the more extreme estimates of a warming from a doubling of CO2 being around 6F, it might get warm enough for palm trees when CO2 levels rise beyond from 50,000ppm, up from 400ppm today. This won’t happen as when CO2 levels get beyond 5,000ppm the human race will be wiped out, so CO2 emissions should abate somewhat.
