That is some of the deepest no-ice that I have ever seen.

There is quite a bit of ice. It looks like it has been there a while. There are lots of pictures of it.
What was all that fuss about the ice disappearing from the mountain ?
“MOUNTAINEERING IN CENTRAL AFRICA.
Kilima-Njaro has at last been conquered. Dr. A. B. Meyer, who failed to reach the summit in 1887, made a determined effort in October last, and, during twenty days’ stay on the upper slopes of the mountain, ascended to the top of Kibo four times, and of Mawenzi (or Kimawenzi) three times…. There was much less snow on the mountain than there was in July, 1887.”
