I understand the consensus opinion of Hitler at the time in England is that he was a nice enough chap, a bit nationalistic, not so much more so than the Americans, but willing to sit down and talk, sign a few papers, and host a fine gathering. Chamberlain himself said as much, and held within his own hand a paper signed by the Chancellor agreeing. Surely they can’t all have been wrong.
