Pathetic – but of what concern is it to our ruling elite the suffering of common people. Green jobs will still be politically marketed to a largely ignorant public. And yes, cars like the Karma and Tesla are nothing but faddish toys for the ultra-wealthy. Nothing but niche markets that will never employ many workers anyhow. Why waste taxpayer money picking winners in the hobby/toy electric vehicle market? Makes no sense; if it did, there would be plenty of venture money chasing these products.
Battery technology also not ready for prime time. We have to admit that it may never be ready if one is to compare battery cars to internal combustion cars.
Same thing going on in Europe:

EPA continues its war on the American economy:

We live in interesting times. I’m curious to see how all this works out. So far the bets on solar, wind, and battery cars have not worked out. At all.
Drivers to be punished for going green
Green cars are charged less or no tax in Britain, but now it’s dawned on the Government that with so many going green, they are losing an awful lot of revenue.

Spanish renewable-energy companies that once got Europe’s biggest subsidies are deserting the nation after the government shut off aid, pushing project developers and equipment-makers to work abroad or perish.
