In July 1936 the avg. max high temp for July was a full 4.2 degrees higher in SE KS than it is averaging this year.
Despite all the bedwetting, 1936 is still the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. And don’t forget 1954 when it was 115 in St. Louis.

The comment to the magnificent picture however still contains the usual hints that not all is well with the climate.
“Despite the record snow in some western states, the snow extent in North America as a whole was below average in the spring (March to May) for the eighth year in a row. The extent was low because less snow fell in central and northwestern Canada and Alaska than average”.
