Secretary Of Defense Worried About The “Polar Cap” Melting

I was pointing out the other day that with the polar cap melting, we now have problems with regard to who claims the area in the polar region. Speech:

Alaska had the most sea ice ever recorded this winter, with four of the top five winters occurring since 2007.

The people of Barrow, Alaska are actually expecting Russians to invade on surfboards at any minute. The ice is only five or six feet thick, and with high temperatures reaching 16 degrees below freezing, that ice will be gone soon.

  1. Politicians tend to be 1-10 years behind what’s actually happening in the real world. Our illustrious Australian government has decided to “invest” billions of dollars into a national cable network so everyone can download pirated movies faster, just as the next technological wave has moved onto wireless. So why would it be a surprise that politicians are harping on climate metrics that have since changed direction? Surprised?

    I’m still wondering why anyone would live there. Avg temp high in July is 47F says wiki, and a population of over 4000. No roads connecting to other cities. Only airline service in and out.,_Alaska

  3. jimash1 says:

    They could drive tanks over that Bering Sea.

  4. geologyjim says:

    This administration has far more demonstrably inept executives than any in recent memory.
    I dare anyone to claim any competence among the following:
    Ken [Big Hat-No Oil] Salazar
    Hilda [Big Union-No Jobs] Solis
    Lisa [Big Lie-No Economy] Jackson
    Hillary [Big RESET – Muslim B’rohood AOK!] Clinton
    Timmy [I don’t gotta pay no stinkin’ taxes] Geithner
    Eric [Big Fast and Furious] Holder
    Leon [Big Sweat-No Defense] Panetta
    Ray [Bridge to Nowhere] Lahood
    Elizabeth [Big Injun] Warren
    That DOOFUS who runs NASA [first priority – make Muslims feel good about themselves]
    and on, and on, and on … … …

    And then there are the Czars, who get no public mention at all [hmmmmm wonder what they’re up to?]

    If the press actually lived up to the very special role granted them by the Constitution [to inform the public], these clowns would have been run out of town 3 years ago.

    • gregole says:

      Here is a Czar list – creepy; especially when you check these people out. Just start with John Holdren Obama’s Science Czar…

      • gregole says:

        John Holdren, science czar
        a. radical environmentalist who argued that trees have legal rights and should be allowed to go to court
        b. From his book Human Ecology: Problems and Solutions, Holdren states that newborn babies remain nonhuman even after they are born, [until such a time as The State] deems them to have been sufficiently socialized
        c. once floated the idea of forced abortions, “compulsory sterilization,” and the creation of a “Planetary Regime” that would oversee human population levels and control all natural resources as a means of protecting the planet
        i. Women could be forced to abort their pregnancies, whether they wanted to or not;
        ii. The population at large could be sterilized by infertility drugs intentionally put into the nation’s drinking water or in food;
        iii. Single mothers and teen mothers should have their babies seized from them against their will and given away to other couples to raise;
        iv. People who “contribute to social deterioration” (i.e. undesirables) “can be required by law to exercise reproductive responsibility” — in other words, be compelled to have abortions or be sterilized.
        v. A transnational “Planetary Regime” should assume control of the global economy and also dictate the most intimate details of Americans’ lives — using an armed international police force.

  5. kbray in california says:

    That’s not the kind of weather I want to see during MAY !!!
    Having the Earth heat up about another 50 degrees F would be very welcome in some places…

    I reckon that’s going to take a lot more CO2 to do that so I’ll toss another log into the wood stove… It’s cold here today in Sunny California too… and not Sunny either…

    This climate change crap is causing really weird wacky weather…
    Jimmy Hansen, I surrender, turn the heat back on please…
    and that’s pretty please with carbohydrates on it…
    BRRRRRRRRRR I’m freezing.

  6. Andy DC says:

    As cold as it has been, that rapid decrease of sea ice seems a bit suspect.

  7. That’s because wind and currents determine ice extent. Changes in SST’s have little (relatively speaking) to do with ice melt in the short term. Interesting thing here is that many of us have been overly exposed to so much Warmist rubbish that it’s actually starting to degrade the brain processes of sceptics as well. Sometimes I have to stop, stand back, and shake myself out of it.
