The winds have stopped blowing in the Arctic which is why the ice edge has stopped moving.

Thanks for all the work you do putting together animations and presentations on Arctic ice and other climate topics. It is instructional and informative for the interested non-specialist like me.
If the winds don’t pick up, does that mean that this year’s ice melt is just about complete? There is certainly no sign of a significant warm spell in the High Arctic any time soon.
When the winds return, they ice will start compacting again. That is not forecast for at least a few days.
What about larger weather patterns? Is the arctic oscillation setting up for favorable conditions for ice or unfavorable?
