OSLO, Norway (AP) — Police arrived at an island massacre about an hour and a half after a gunman first opened fire, slowed because they didn’t have quick access to a helicopter and then couldn’t find a boat to make their way to the scene just several hundred yards (meters) offshore. The assailant surrendered when police finally reached him, but 85 people died before that.
Survivors of the shooting spree have described hiding and fleeing into the water to escape the gunman, but a police briefing Saturday detailed for the first time how long the terror lasted — and how long victims waited for help.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

[the obvious “because a policeman is too heavy” joke]
http://theforeigner.no/pages/news/norwegian-jets-in-libyan-quagmire/ but Norway the peaceful country is running out of bombs? Time for Another Peace Prize to Obama
Rather unusual circumstances it being on an island. Mind you I heard that gunman drove up wearing a police uniform, but if it was an island how did he drive up? So I must have mishead and he got a boat across.
Andy
The woman in charge of the island ferried him over
Really, so that’s how he got over. Perhaps she might have wondered why he looked like Rambo?
This is why I keep my 12 ga handy. Where I live it could take police 20 minutes or longer to respond. I doubt the bad guy would be willing to have a smoke and wait.
Here are a few fine examples of gun toting citizens making a difference in someone else’s life…

You forget that this evil bastard set off a huge bomb in central Oslo (right outside the central government buildings) precisely to distract and draw police and emergency services away from the island where he went on his deadly rampage.
Exactly my point. The police can’t be relied on, which is why the citizenry should be armed – like in Switzerland.
