The Yangtze also flooded like this exactly 100 years ago, in 1911; according to some websites, about 3.7 million people were left homeless at that time – via Google News, I’m looking at a page from the Montreal Gazette from 7th Oct 1911, which gives a figure of 10,000 as having drowned (other sources say 100,000 deaths, overall) and more than a million facing starvation.
