The problem is if you cut say the US armed forces to 1/5th of what it spends at the moment which would still be enough to defend the USA, then the Republicans, including the Tea Party, would said no.
So it is not cutting spending, it is cutting spending on stuff your party doesn’t like.

I suspect your knowledge of the Tea Party comes only from the MSM & observation of its co-optors (Palin, et al). You should try actually engaging some of us in conversation.
We are primarily Constitutionalists. We are opposed to all these outside ‘interventions’ (only Congress can declare a War). We are opposed to a standing Army (un-Constitutional).
Your 1/5th is a ridiculously high number assuming you don’t believe bases in 120 countries are required “to defend the USA”. (Psst… they are not)
