AP SOURCES: INTELLIGENCE ON WEAPONS NO ‘SLAM DUNK’
WASHINGTON (AP) — The intelligence linking Syrian President Bashar Assad or his inner circle to an alleged chemical weapons attack that killed at least 100 people is no “slam dunk,” with questions remaining about who actually controls some of Syria’s chemical weapons stores and doubts about whether Assad himself ordered the strike, U.S. intelligence officials say.

The shock is that it is news that he lied.
In every criminal action, first question, who benefits? I cannot see any benefit in using gas right after letting the UN in, for the Syrian government. However if Al Qeda needed an airforce and navy on the cheap, a few chemical artillery shells are a great investment. The smart move by the Syrians would of been to let the UN root around long enough to blame Israel, after all who else do they ever blame?
That was the first thought which came to mind after the Sandy Hook shooting. Nothing about the official story ever made any sense, and it changed repeatedly. Bloomberg was all over it and had his plan of action implemented within hours.
The benefit is that it buys them time. On the other hand if Assad didn’t order the strike but one of his generals did, is there a practical difference?
Yes. But Assad would have to act swiftly in that respect and either arrest or execute the general.
