The coldest year – 1975 – was a year of peak Arctic ice. Climate experts now say that cold weather is due to missing Arctic ice.

Steve, your use of facts and newspaper stories to show the ridiculousness of claims about recent strange weather is great. But the new “Global Crisis, war, climate change & catastrophe in the seventeenth century” by Geoffrey Parker may be a gold mine.

A sample: “In the Americas, drought afflicted the valley of Mexico for five years out of six between 1616 and 1621, and reduced the crops in the Chesapeake basin so severely that the new Virginia colony almost failed. After six better harvests, the summer of 1627 was the wettest recorded in Europe during the past 500 years, while 1628 was a ‘year without a summer’, with temperatures so low that many crops never ripened.”

    and

“Some better weather followed in the 1630s, but then came three of the coldest summers ever recorded in the the northern hemisphere.”

Very interesting, 1627/28 is the beginning of the Maunder minimum.
I don’t think it’s mere coincidence that we’re having these strong oscillations of weather and floods (specially 2010 and 2011) again.

I thought this article was talking about recorded data.

Also, it’s not ridiculous it’s definitely true and supported by all the sources.

I can’t remember any colder March/April than this one.

What will they say in a year or 2 when the ice is at all time highs again?

Come on you guys. Wait until the numbers are ADJUSTED – the ADJUSTED numbers will show that March, 2013, was one of the HOTTEST Marches on record.

Wow, so the GW group will say global warming caused the global cooling. Like that makes any sense! I don’t think anybody knows the future weather wise. We all can guess and argue till we are blue in the face. So is it co2 , the sun, sunspots, oceans, wind patterns, earths inner core or earths tilt? or all of the above that causes changes. But I can predict that a coming ice age would be far worst than a global warming event.

    Hi there,

I think that even if there were no human caused CO2 emissions there would still be temperature changes, and natural disasters just as before. But I think it would be beneficial for an economy to not be reliant on carbon. I also think that no matter what they’re going to still be pushing this Global Warming stuff, and that the only way to really falsify this GW claim would be to reduce CO2 emissions and observe the effect.

That’s really the only way to directly empirically test the GW hypothesis, which in turn would either falsify or prove it.

Of course I believe that reducing CO2 emissions can be easily done in a free market way without any government intervention.
