“…Arctic sea ice is …right at the 30 year mean” is excellent news. 2012 and 2010 were also at the 30 year mean at this time, but dropped below by ~mid-May Now, what would be really interesting (and tie warmists britches in knots) would be to see Arctic ice stay within the ± 1 SD of the mean. That would be a pronounced shift, headed in..which direction?
Oh. Cooling.
What 30 year mean? 1979-2006 = 30 years?

Notice how 2009 brought a high recovery during the summer, after just 2 years of prolonged solar minimum. It was at the SD band up to the beginning of July!
Now, imagine what a Maunder type minimum, lasting for decades, would do.
2012 was due to an exceptionally bad storm which broke up a lot of ice. The problem is that Arctic ice floats on water so it can be broken up by being battered by heavy seas or blown out of the Arctic into the Atlantic as happened in 2007. Unlike Antarctica where ice ablation is more a function of temperature, the Arctic is more a function of wind and seas. So far this spring it looks like the ice is being pushed against the North American side of the Arctic Ocean but a lot can change between now and September.

“Melting arctic sea ice” is the one scare the Warmists like to trot out annually. If the ice doesn’t cooperate and refuses to melt according to the dire predictions, they’ll have to invent a replacement scare story. I can’t wait to see what they’ll come up with next.

Despite mounting evidence to the contrary, the “CO2 is evil” True Believers remain devoted to their doomsday prophecy. And those of us who dare to challenge their doctrine are branded heretics. We should take pleasure in our apostasy. In science, skepticism rules.

The only noticeable trend is toward a wider range between summer and winter. Maybe hotter summers and colder winters? If there were just warming, you would not think the ice would recover that well. Also, you probably need far more than 34 years of data to establish a meaningful climatalogical trend.
