Shock News : Corals Do Fine When Greenies Leave Them Alone

Researchers find corals in Northern Australia healed themselves in just 12 years

Scott reef on the northwest coast of Australia was severely damaged by a period of warming in 1998

Researchers found after six years mature corals began breeding again

A coral reef in Northern Australia severely damaged by warming seas has managed to completely heal itself in just 12 years, stunned researchers have found.

The team found that being left alone to breed on its own was key.

  1. Brian G Valentine says:

Eco-extremist Tim Flannery was appointed to a Government position as a result of his screaming about the Barrier Reef, among other things.

I feel very bad for the Australians, they have had to live with the worst elements in their Government for more than ten years now.

  2. leftinbrooklyn says:

But, but, but…How can I be a super- hero planet saver if the planet doesn’t need saving?!!?

  3. Rosco says:

The greatest threat to coral reefs in Australia’s great barrier reef complex is the crown of thorns starfish. It was idebtified as a serious threat that was increasing in numbers and range in the 70s.

Because it is exonerated of any evil CO2 emissions it was left alone to do its work.

It is responsible for almost all the coral devastation of the past 4 decades.

This damage and reef death is then blamed on global warming.

A small percentage of the money wasted on investigating an unreactive necessary gas could have controlled the population of the crown of thorns starfish and prevented most of the damage.

    Another climate science triumph !

  4. Rosco says:

Brian – we have only had Flannery as a government paid alarmist for a little more than 2 years – it just SEEMS like ten – OK – a lifetime.

One of our TV networks regularly displays a “Save the Planet” logo with “granma” style homespun recipes and tips.

No wonder the brainwashing of youth succeeds – some never develop critical thinking skills when constantly bombarded with propaganda.

It was different in my youth – the message stick somehow lacked the immediacy and authoritative power of the nightly news broadcast.

    • Brian G Valentine says:

Actually I did know that, I was referring to some other equally unsavoury characters such as Christine Milne

      (the Patron Saint of AGW)

      • Rosco says:

Actually Christine Milne is the greatest thing anyone who despairs about green politics could have on their side.

You can actually hear voters switching off everytime she appears on TV.

After Bob – who was at least affable – Christine has all the appeal of a chaff cutter and as such is also the perfect advertisement as to why mere time served is not a recommendation for promotion over ability.

  5. Rosco says:

Actually – in my youth the unprecedented visual reporting of the death and destruction of the war in Vietnem was a powerful message.

The governments of the day didn’t seem to comprehend that people found the haunting visual messages like children on fire fleeing exploding villages, or the site of an unarmed and bound prisoner on his knees being summarily executed by a shot to the head disturbing.

  6. Streetcred says:

I know some coral collectors … they laugh at these claims of mass destruction of the reef. Crown of Thorns is the real and present danger. My sources tell me that ‘bleaching’ (where zooxanthellae abandon the coral) is actually quite minimal … certainly nothing like what the catastrophic alarmists claim.

    • gator69 says:

Yes, I had also read that the damage was minimal and not anything out of the ordinary. Reefs like any other living thing, go through cycles.

One Interesting observation Jim makes: Satellite SST’s “measure the top millimetre” of the ocean.

And now Scott’s Reef is back to normal without Climate Scientists doing anything?? How did that happen? I thought only climate scientists could save the world. Or did Juliar’s carbon tax save the reef before it became law? CAGW works in mysterious ways!!
