No Mechanism Required Here

Alarmist climate change theory is based on the idea that the atmosphere heats due to man-made CO2, and the change in energy balance causes the climate to change.

The atmosphere quit heating a long time ago, so alarmists took the liberty of cutting the mechanism out of the equation. They now go directly from CO2 to climate change, without any specified mechanism – making climate science nothing more than government sponsored superstition.

Perhaps Trenberth can explain how his heat hiding at the bottom of the ocean affects the atmosphere.

It’s completely consistent with our models. You are just not capable of understanding the nuances of a complex system in a rapidly heating world. Kevin T.

Yes, we are dealing with the world’s leading scientists, with thousands of peer reviewed papers and computers that can do trillions of calculations in a second. So we ordinary mortals are not in any position to question what they tell us, even if our own eyes tell us differently. Even if 99.9% of their adjustments are warm biased. What a crock!

      • Glacierman says:

        Andy,

I don’t care what you learned in school. Warm water contracts and sinks. That is what our models say. You are not a climate scientist, and worse yet, you obviously are not a climate modeler. I will have to see about getting your internet rights revoked as there is no reason you should be allowed to spread misinformation. Either way, someone owes me an apology just for having to see this stuff in print. KT

      Temperature Affects Density
      Key Concepts
Heating a substance causes molecules to speed up and spread slightly further apart, occupying a larger volume that results in a decrease in density.
Cooling a substance causes molecules to slow down and get slightly closer together, occupying a smaller volume that results in an increase in density.
Hot water is less dense and will float on room-temperature water.
Cold water is more dense and will sink in room-temperature water.
      Summary
Middle School students place hot and cold colored water into room-temperature water. They observe that the hot water floats on the room-temperature water and the cold water sinks. Students will combine the concepts of temperature, molecular motion, and density to learn that hot water is less dense than room-temperature water and that cold water is more dense.

Models, in general, suck and, “are just not capable of understanding the nuances of a complex system in a rapidly heating world.” And those who believe in and worship model results are ignorant and arrogant.

      • Glacierman says:

You clearly are not qualified to be a climate modeler. There is a tremendous amount of missing heat out there and it’s a travesty we can’t find it. It therefore must be hiding where we can’t measure it…..cause we know it exists, our models say so. Kevin T.

I’d like to see Trenberth explain how the “heat” it migrating downwards when typically, warmer water is less dense than cold water and so the cold water should sink and the warmer water should be at or near the surface.

  3. robert barclay says:

What seems to be completely misundrestood is that physical heat will not pass from the atmosphere into the ocean because of surface tension; You can get some heat into water from above by using an aggressively fan forced source such as a heat gun because the fan forcing simulates weight, telling the surface that it is no longer the surface and the water allows in a very small amount of heat. The irony of the situation is that if you are serious about heating water from above, the only way to do it is to float a vessel on the water thus cancelling the surface tension and apply the heat source to the vessel, Water only receives energy via the sun’s rays which penetrate surface tension no problem. Because of surface tension, you cannot increase the evaporation rate or store or bank heat in the ocean. AGW is a nonsense.

These facts about the absence of warming should be quoted often to counter the arguments of the Warmists:

From Werner Brozek article in WUWT.

For RSS the warming is not significant for over 23 years.
For RSS: +0.127 +/-0.134 C/decade at the two sigma level from 1990
For UAH the warming is not significant for over 19 years.
For UAH: 0.146 +/- 0.170 C/decade at the two sigma level from 1994
For Hadcrut3 the warming is not significant for over 19 years.
    For Hadcrut3: 0.095 +/- 0.115 C/decade at the two sigma level from 1994
For Hadcrut4 the warming is not significant for over 18 years.

Billions are being fleeced directly from investors, and indirectly from taxpayers via dumb governments like Australia’s. Barclays Capital estimates the Carbon credit market to be Euro 3 Trillion by 2020. All this money flows into London and virtually none flows out.
Of course the UK government will monitor the integrity, just like they did with the LIBOR manipulation (still no convictions for corruption) Even ENRON didn’t get to Trillions!!

Just for clarification: at a pressure of one atmosphere,
the density of water is a maximum at 4 degrees C

    this temperature.

Reading this publication, I think it is game over for us skeptics, because the finance guys have got it all set up and the government bureaucrats have “seen the light”, including forcing companies to buy offsetting domestic carbon credits at a much higher price than the international market. Australia is doing that now with A$23 per tonne versus Euro 2.50 per tonne on the Euro market and New Zealand looks like it is about to follow. Once Obama introduces a carbon tax, its done. Only major electoral changes across the OECD countries could reverse it.

The fact that it is a scam is probably a moot point now.

Its a bit like the introduction of Income Tax in WW1 to fund the imperial wars, on the recommedation of banks to western governments.

    • tckev says:

Push the price of fuel up and up, keep doing it for long enough so everyone forgets why Carbon Credit are there, then as the really cold weather come in fortunes will be made.

Controlled misery always makes big profits. Or is that too cynical for you?

      • Andy OZ says:

Fully agree. The profit motive on others misery and even death is pretty low. And the lefties are championing the argument for these. The irony is stunning.

Let’s see. We have a strongly-held belief system, which has precious little tolerance of opposing views. And there’s zero evidence to support that belief system. Kinda like militant Islam. I think that the Flying CO2 Monster qualifies as a state-sponsored RELIGION. And that’s clearly unconstitutional.

If my aging memory is correct, there was a court case in England, which held that a certain government employee was entitled to practice his faith-based belief in the FCM. Moreover the court ruled that it was unreasonable of his supervisor to pressure the bloke to fly on evil CO2-belching airplanes, in order to attend job-related conferences and workshops.
