NOAA’s Climate People Caught Defrauding The Public Again

NOAA’s climate people claim that sea level is rising 3.2 mm/year. Their sea level people say it is just over half that.

the absolute global sea level rise is believed to be 1.7-1.8 millimeters/year.

Sea Level Trends – Global Regional Trends

They probably should talk to the actual scientists who study sea level rise before lying to the public.

But their fraud is much worse than it seems. They used the same gravity ice loss calculations for Greenland which NASA just showed to be wrong in Antarctica, and they ignored the last four years. This year Greenland is seeing record ice gain and record cold.

Greenland Ice Sheet Surface Mass Budget: DMI

Greenland melting is cyclical. By cherry-picking years of their choice, NOAA is defrauding the public by trying to convince them that a non-existent problem exists.

17 Dec 1939, Page 15 – at

But their fraud gets even worse. Even if their bogus claim of 215 billion tons per year were correct, that would account for less than 20% of their claimed 3.2 mm/year. The majority of their 3.2 mm/year is due to fraud, not Greenland.

Sea level rise rate slowed from about 2004:
If Greenland melt really did accelerate as portrayed in the graphic above, AND the rate of rise slowed, then the ocean must be absorbing less heat from the atmosphere.

Otherwise there’d be much more sea level rise, due to thermosteric expansion.

Hence, if they’re going to claim Greenland melt’s accelerating, it ruins their number one explanation for the missing heat of the global warming pause, that it hides in the ocean. They can’t have it all ways.

“They can’t have it all ways.”

      Yes they can.
They are relying on the US school systems DELIBERATE DUMBING DOWN of Americans for the last hundred years.

      • Heh. Same thought, same time.

        • gator69 says:

Thanks to our intellectually crippling public school system, the grantologists can have it both ways at the same time.

Hot-cold, drought-flood, etc… It all adds up to CAGW, everytime, all the time.

        • Gail Combs says:

Great minds think a like. We are all old enough to see the horrid degradation in the school system. I first noticed it as a sophomore in high school. It was that bad.

      • darrylb says:

The majority of my former teaching colleagues would not go into teaching again for many reasons.
My daughter and son in law,, have six children ages 2 to 16, He quit teaching this year after 25 years. They have chosen to home school. I was against it at first, but more and more I am seeing many reasons why. However, for them it was a huge financial sacrifice.

My daughter has degrees in biology and environmentalism It was she who steered me into becoming skeptical of AGW.
Judith Curry at Climate etc has a current piece which states the sad and very political study of climate science.
BTW. a former instructor of mine refers to CO2 as climate pollution. That term really irritates me,
I have now made myself available to speak in local schools, mostly high schools.

        • Gail Combs says:

For anyone that refers to CO2 as pollution ask them the next question.

If CO2 is pollution then do you think we should remove ALL CO2 from the environment. If they have any idea of what CO2 is they will sputter if they don’t then tell them If CO2 is removed all live on the planet dies therefore it can’t be a pollutant any more than water can be a pollutant.

(I go ballistic every time someone uses the word chemical like it is the equivalent of poison.)

        • I once made a progressive Boulder woman really mad when I said that all nature is chemical. She screamed at me that it is not. I said the whole universe is chemical and asked her if she knows about the periodic table of chemical elements. She thought about it briefly and told me that’s not the chemistry she’s talking about.

I had an equally entertaining discussion with her about organic when I told her that petroleum diesel, hydrogenated oils and trans fats are organic compounds. We were standing in front of Whole Foods.

        • gator69 says:

        • Gail Combs says:

I really would have like to have seen that ‘discussion’ although I have had many similar ones.

Every time I see a label that says no chemicals added I immediately want to ask why they are selling vacuum instead of what the label says.

        • dave1billion says:

Whenever someone says something stupid like “organic food” I tell them that I sometimes prefer to eat inorganic food like sand and semiconductor chips. I call it the Pica Diet.

They never get it but I don’t care.

Two of the toughest classes I had to take in college were Organic Chemistry I & II. I suffered too much in that class to EVER let someone slide when they misuse the word “organic”.

        • Gail Combs says:

It was Physical Chemistry and Thermodynamics I hated with a passion. I found Organic easy.

        • Thermodynamics is a funny subject. The first time you go through it, you don’t understand it at all. The second time you go through it, you think you understand it, except for one or two small points. The third time you go through it, you know you don’t understand it, but by that time you are so used to it, so it doesn’t bother you any more.

I bet if you asked people if di-hydrogen oxide is a pollutant I bet most people would say it is. Democrats party takes advantage of people’s ignorance to push their agenda

    • They can’t have it all ways.

Yes, they can. Climastrology is not subject to such restrictions.

    • Steve Case says:

      According to the current data
at Colorado University’s Sea Level Research Group, the high point was late December 2005,

      1992.9595 -5.678
       2005.9906 42.151

      Excel’s Slope Function says 3.6 mm/yr

At the time, the rate was only reported as 2.6 mm/yr
That’s because CU’s Sea Level Group has bumped it up since then.

      Neat trick Huh?

  4. Andy DC says:

It is business as usual, environment communists lying through their teeth, with the highly politicized LSM lapping up whatever they say without question. The LSM, clearly in bed the the environmental communists and just a anxious to detroy American values and principals, promotes a very scary disinformation campaign to brainwash the unthinking, unknowing masses of asses.

Brainwash the masses that they don’t deserve or need modern conforts and conveniences, like cars and air conditioners, or a reliable source of electricity. While at the same time, subjecting our citizens to a big tax increase, to be used as reparations to worthless third world dictators.

    • Gail Combs says:

As Kent Clizbe said the capture of the MSM, schools and Hollywood, the transmitters of our culture was the goal of the KGB agents here in the USA.

  5. weatherguru says:

You said it! Why did they stop at 2011? That level of cherry picking obviously shows their bias. Completely unscientific!

  6. wert says:

Total mass balance is still different from the surface mass balance. So it is good SMB is positive but it doesn’t mean ice is accumulating.

    • Glacial flow is a response to excess surface accumulation. If surface accumulation reduces, then glacial flow will reduce too. It is a pointless straw man argument to discuss total mass balance, because no one is measuring it accurately.

      • wert says:

Thanks for your answer, though I’m not agreeing.

You might well be right about not panicking, but SMB from DMI doesn’t really answer glacier growth / shrink question.

      • Gail Combs says:

A team of European researchers have unveiled a scientific model showing that the Earth is likely to experience a “mini ice age” as a result of decreased solar activity.

From what I can see we are already seeing the start of this cold period. It is RECORD SNOW that heralds the start of cold climate not low temperatures. The recent switch from zonal to meridional jets allowing the ‘polar vortex’ arctic air to mix with warm moist southern air causes this record snow. That is why the Laurentide Ice Sheet follows the same contours as the ‘polar votex’. We have also seen very cool summers the last three years here in mid NC with the white clover blooming through the summer. It does not tolerate temps over ~90 to 95F. Plants do not lie even though ClimAstrologists at NOAA do so continually.

Glacers (neve) are starting to reappear in Scotland

Hudson Bay was the growth center for the main ice sheet that covered northern North America during the last Ice Age. (WIKI)

August 13, 2015: 2nd highest ice coverage for Hudson Bay since 1971 at mid-August – only 1992 higher

Directly south of Hudson Bay are the Great Lakes which have had record ice the last two years.

The Northern Hemisphere Snow cover has also been at record levels.

In Febuary 2010 there was snow in all fifty states and on Nov 18, 2014 all fifty states had freezing temperatures. In 2013 Northern Hemisphere Snow Extent Was Greatest On Record In December with snow all the way down into Mexico.

Itally captured the world’s one day snow fall record twice this last winter in March TWICE.
        240cm (7.84 ft) in Pescocostanzo
256cm (8.34 ft) of snow Capracotta

A total of 10 feet (3 meters) of snow fell on Passolanciano, Majella burying the chairlifts (6 Mar 2015 )

Not far away, the Greek islands in the Mediterranean were buried under 6½ ft (2 m) of snow in January.

In Norway they were forced to remove excessive snow from ski slopes – “During the last two days we’ve got more snow than we had in the last two years together,” said Vegar Sårheim. “I had never believed we would experience this.”

        FROM 2014:
        (1) 2014 had the greatest snow cover in the Northern Hemisphere since data collection began in 1968 — (Rutgers University Global Snow Lab).
        (2) 2014 had the greatest Southern Hemisphere sea ice extent (area) on record.
        (3) 2014 had Northern Hemisphere sea ice extent (area) rebound back to a normal level.
        (4) About 75% of the 48 contiguous US states had their hottest years on record BEFORE 1955.

Only one US state had its hottest year on record AFTER the year 2000.
        (5) Over 50% of the 48 contiguous US states had their COLDEST year on record AFTER 1940.
        (6) US / Canada Great Lakes ice in 2014 set three cold weather records (the second greatest ice extent (area) on record in early 2014, the longest ice duration on record in early 2014, and the earliest ice formation on record in late 2014). Water temperature of the Great Lakes is over 6 degrees colder than normal in mid October.
        (7) 2014 had the fewest number on record of US land-based temperature stations that reached 90 degrees F. or warmer at any time during the year.
        (8) 2014 average annual US temperature for the 48 contiguous states, according to NOAA, was only the 33rd warmest year since 1895 — 2.7 degrees F. below the record high.
        (9) 2014 average annual US temperature for the 48 contiguous states, according to Berkeley Earth, was only the 38th warmest year since 1850.
        (10) 2014 average annual US temperature was the 4th coldest year in the past 17 years, according to NOAA.
        (11) ALL measurement methodologies used in the world have reflected a flat average temperature trend for at least the past 12 years until NOAA used engine intake water to ‘adjust’ argo water temperature up.

  7. darrylb says:

Traditionally all sea level rise has been attributed to glacial melt and thermal expansion of water.
(Then there is the 10% add on because it is thought that land masses are slowly rebounding.)

I have recently seen studies where as much as 42% of sea level rise has been due to surface run off of water which was formerly in aquifers. That, I believe, is a serious environmental concern.

A lengthy, frank and open discussion of AGW with Smithsonian’s Dr. Kenneth M. Towe on ResearchGate reveals how humans were dehumanized” and “internationalized to save the world from nuclear annihilation after WWII.

In discussing the possibility that “A natural solar eruption today might trigger a retaliatory nuclear exchange that would literally DESTROY MODERN CIVILIZATION,” Smithsonian’s Dr. Kenneth M. Towe said “If a solar storm occurred today, we will have had forecasts already that it was coming. No nuclear attack will happen…at least for that reason, because the world will know in advance that communications can be disrupted.”

When questioned about the reliability of solar storm forecasts and sharing those forecasts with the leaders of all other nuclear nations – China, England, France, India, Iran, Israel, Japan, North Korea, Pakistan, Russia, South Africa, etc. . . .

Dr. Kenneth M. Towe replied Solar eruptions are 100% predictable and Communications worldwide have come a long way . . .

LOCK-STEP, CONSENSUS SCIENCE probably begins in that worldwide council of frightened leaders of nuclear nations trying to avoid nuclear annihilation by promoting falsehoods about the source of energy (E) stored as mass (m) in cores heavy atoms, some planets, ordinary stars and galaxies:
