Ehrlich Shock News : England Disappeared 13 Years Ago
This entry was posted in Uncategorized. Bookmark the permalink.
Ehrlich was good at misreading what was going on in the early 70’s. The oil price went from $1 a barrel in 1970 to $3 in 1971, $11 in 1973 and $30 in 1979, due to geopolitics and central bank monetary inflation, not due to oil scarcity. Sure US production peaked, but international production started to increase as exploration boomed. The knock on inflation effects in that decade I remember were traumatic for Western societies, and would have seemed to Ehrlich like it was all due to population growth. But here we still are. population still growing and technology advancing at unbelievable rates. Another doomsday prophet who’s books should be in the fiction section of the library……..same as Mann, Hansen, Gore, McKibben, along with Lance Armstrong. Following on from the IOC demand for LA’s medal back, I wonder if the Nobel committee will ask for their Nobel Prize back from these muppets?
Misleading headline.
Ehrlich was predicting the demise of the entire United Kingdom, not just England. Scotland a Wales were going to go as well.
Actually, we did suffer the Thatcher Terror, which brought the Global Warming story into international prominence. (Thatcher pushed it as a weapon against the miners’ unions long before Al Gore had heard of it.)
Nonetheless, the country more or less survived.
Mostly less.
Ramblings from the mentally ill. It’s time for antidepressants and a retirement home for this “butterfly expert”.
The UK (that includes England) was lost before that when it joined the EEC that later changed to the EU. The top of the island was last seen, over a sea of bureaucracy, when Thatch attempted to extricate the kingdom from the EU’s lefty claws.
Correction –
was –
bureaucracy, when Thatch attempted to extricate the kingdom from the EU’s lefty claws.
should be –
bureaucracy, when Thatcher attempted to extricate the kingdom from the EU’s lefty claws.
