“South Carolina State Climatology Office”

The official temperature record for South Carolina of 113F on June 29, 2012 has zero credibility.  There were no other temperature readings in the area which were anywhere close to that.

  1. HiFast says:

UHI, nearby urbanization, and poor siting likely contribute to this “record.”

Lat/Long (33.9831,-81.0167) of the U of SC site (USH00381944) is incorrect in the USHCN database and PullingBackTheCurtain app.

    Actual location is: 33.991638, -81.024562

The Stevenson screen and other met instruments are in a small grassy area between two railroad tracks and appear to be accessible to nearby dorm dwellers, obstacle course users, and volleyball players.
