A train carrying more than 100 tankers of crude oil derailed during a snowstorm in southern West Virginia on Monday, sending at least one tanker into the Kanawha River, igniting at least 14 tankers in all and sparking a house fire, officials said.
Officials evacuated hundreds of families and shut down two water treatment plants threatened by oil seeping into the river. State public safety division spokesman Lawrence Messina told the Associated Press late Monday that fires were still burning nearly nine hours after the accident. The plan was to let the fires on tankers burn themselves out.

I am so angry at the unconscionable waste of borrowed! money on renewables –neither reliable nor affordable and disaster for power delivery. Do check out the news from Germany and the other Euro countries this winter when the sun doesn’t shine and the wind doesn’t blow. Man’s inhumanity to his own kind just never quits. I often think of the song line, “Stop the world; I want to get off!.”! Of course, half of the pipeline already exists from Okla. to the gulf coast. We already bring the oil from Canada on Mr. Buffet’s train sets. It helps to be a close friend of the POTUS.
How often (never!) do we hear/read that we in the U.S.now produce 70% of our own oil? Of the remainder, most comes from Canada and other places in the Americas like Mexico and Venezuela. This is why the EPA’s own assessment found that Keystone would lead to lower carbon emissions than loading the oil onto trucks or trains and driving it across the country.
There is no legitimate opposition to this pipeline, period. If we don’t take the oil and refine it here in the US, it will go overseas to dirtier refineries in China. We can’t stop it from being used, we don’t own it and other countries are happy to use it. But we can transport it and refine it in the most environmentally responsible way if the eco-luddites would stop hobbling our efforts to do the right thing.
The eco-luddites do not care. Their goal has always been to cripple and destroy the USA and nothing less.
