  1. Glacierman says:

Great comeback. I think most progressives think that the whole Clinton/Lewinsky episode was a vast right wing conspiracy even though no right wingers had anything to do with it. They just cannot handle the truth so they believe an alternate reality that is consistent with their fantasy land.

    • Phil Jones says:

Yep.. Totally ignorant … Totally ignorant of Climate and Climate History…

Everything starts at the beginning year of the NOAA Graph…

    • Smokey says:

Yes, great comeback to a wide-ranging alarmist troll.

“Dano2” is obviously on the dole, because he has the time to comment on media everywhere, 24/7. Obnoxious, fact-free, and only interested in disrupting any thoughtful conversation.

I used to have his name, but I lost it. I think he was in his 20’s, so clearly brainwashed. A few weeks ago he was arguing with the owner of the “Poor Richard” blog, and excellent site that gets only a comment or two a day, if that. But ‘Dano2’ ran that up to about ha hundrd comments befoe he decided to MovOn. [kudos to the propriator of poorrichardsnews.com . He has more patience than I.]

Trolls like ‘Dano2’ are the price of freedumb of speech, I guess.

  2. I replied, too, as follows:

It doesn’t say “the” ice cap. It says “an” ice cap in the “high” Arctic. It’s a small place, too: Wikipedia tells me that Austfonna has a circumference of only 200 km.

Moreover, I see nothing in this article that even speculates that the Arctic is “warming due to man” or that “the ice cap is shrinking in response”. You jumped to those conclusions on your own. (I will speculate, though, that the author might have intended for you to jump to those conclusions, or at least expected that you would.) The article itself shows, rather, that the scientists themselves say they don’t really understand why this is happening at Austfonna. (You do, though?)

In the real world, the volume of Arctic sea ice has been recovering since 2010; last year, after July the volume was greater than it was in 2007. See the first graph on this page: https://sites.google.com/site/arctischepinguin/ . It is quite reasonable to expect that, with recovery of sea ice, recovery of ice caps will eventually ensue.

    • SxyxS says:

The intention of the article was to push global warming a little bit further.

A circumferrence of 200 km means a radius of ca 30 miles.
30 miles radius is so small that it means nothing-such small area effects of warming and cooling are happening all over the world by slight shifts in the circulation of water or air streams on this planet.
The real problem with this article:
If there is a very small region where ice is melting at a faster pace someone will instantly write an article, but if there is an area of the same size where ice is growing due to unknown factors noone will mention it and for sure not write an article.

      • Phil Jones says:

Yep… We’re told repeatedly that the USA is only 3% of the Worlds surface area… So it doesn’t matter HOW FREAKIN COLD it’s been the past 2 years… We are just a teenie blip and its massively hot everywhere else!

Meanwhile … Total double standard… This 200 km area somehow IS important… Yea, whatever… What a pack of cheaters are these Climate Change freaks…

  3. Not sure why Dano is trying to mislead on this issue, he’s forsaken reasoning due to blind faith and his brain is shrinking in response.

    • SxyxS says:

      The reason is simple.

Global Warming is a religion. And fanatics only acceppt one point of view.

    • Sharpshooter says:

“We shall approach astronomy, as we do geometry, by way of problems, and ignore what’s in the sky, if we intend to get a real grasp of astronomy,” Plato, The Republic,

The Warmistas do climatology like Plato did astronomy. To Plato, the Forms (what we’d call “ideas” or concepts/abstractions) were REAL, that stuff out there in the world was just an illusion of sorts.

      • Gail Combs says:

That is the same as The Hegelian Basis of The Philosophy Of Karl Marx

….The one universal phenomenon is change, and the only universal form of this phenomenon is its complete abstraction. Thus, Hegel accepted as real only that which existed in the mind. Objective phenomena and events were of no consequence; only the conceptions of them possessed by human minds were real. Ideas, not objects, were the stuff of which the universe was made. The universe and all events therein existed and took place only in the mind, and any change was a change in ideas….

In other words Maxists/Socialist/Progressives are the actual ‘Deniers of Science’ not us!

It also explains the emphasis on ‘Consensus’

…Struggle or conflict was the en-evitable fact in such a universe—conflict of the thesis with its antithesis. In this struggle thesis and antithesis acted and reacted on each other, and a new phenomenon—synthesis—was created. All action or change occurring in the universe was, under the Hegelian philosophy, the product of thesis, antithesis, and resulting synthesis—all in the realm of ideas, since objective reality could exist only in that sphere. Since this process was universal and never ending, it offered a complete explanation of the causal processes creating all phenomena within the universe….

  4. Joseph says:

How can one prove that the arctic is warming “due to man”? I’d like to see some proof.

    • Jason Calley says:

There is a special branch of logic which is only usable by CAGW cultists. That branch embodies a form of proof unknown to most scientists, and available only to “climate science.” The name of that new type of proof is “Idiot-Proof ®”, and it is based on the number 97%.

How do we know that man made CO2 is burning up the world? Because 97%!
How do we know that the polar bears are going extinct? Because 97%!
How do we know that a tax on so-called-carbon will save the word? Why, because 97%!

It turns out that 97% is a sort of Universal answer and proof. No matter what the question, no matter what the issue, no matter what levels of evidence are needed, 97% is the answer which is both sufficient and necessary.

How do we know that 97% is always correct? because 97%. That’s why!

      • Jason, you are right but 97 is more than a logical form of proof. It is also the established value of the universal climatological constant αω.

Einstein regretted the introduction of his λ cosmological constant to hold back gravity but αω has been robustly successful in providing computational stability and allowing climatologists to hold back nature.

Climate model results re-balanced with fractional αω produce excellent fit to actual weather observations. Also, the adjustment algorithms needed to true up historical weather records demonstrate great skill in iteratively updating the original measurements with fractional αω values until everything is just right.

It is hard to prove when the arctic had one of the coolest summers on record.

    Here is an interesting read.

    • Joseph says:

I think it was Linzen who said (not an exact quote), in regards to climate alarmism, “their thinking is that we don’t know what’s causing it, so it must be us.”

      • MrX says:

That’s exactly the logic used. I couldn’t believe it when I first heard it. But these climate scientists will repeat it. They’ve mentioned it in front of Congress even. Basically, their ignorance is proof that they’re right. AMAZING!!!

  6. alakhtal says:

    quit fucking headlines

  7. Frank K. says:

What I’ve discovered in observing these people over many years is that to the majority of the warmist believers, the science doesn’t matter at all. Global Warming/Climate Change is, pure and simple, a political movement whose aim is to bully the population into accepting draconian reductions in their lifestyles and an oppressive, totalitarian government in exchange for “saving the planet” from evil humans. This “mania” is perpetuated by the left-wing media cronies, popular culture icons, and Hollywood elitists. The good news is that their influence is fading away as more people simply turn them off permanently (and that includes their left-wing sponsors). As cable goes away and broadcast/print media become obsolete, the old left-wing MSM institutions will go away as well.

If anyone want to know where the majority of the rational, uncorrupted folks in the U.S. are culturally, just look at the success of the movie “American Sniper”…

You must understand, kids are smarter today! 50% of the graduating class at Columbia made the Dean’s List! 91% of Harvard grads graduated with honors! And only 6% of Stanford students received a ‘C’ or below.

Oh the glory of our Progressive institutions! Is there anything money cannot buy?

  9. Mac says:

Liberals have more ways for the world to end than a dog has fleas. They’re controlling, frightened infants. When I was a kid in the 1970s, evil humans were going to destroy the world in a nuclear war. That, and, of course, guns were bad, overpopulation was ruining everything, and back then, mankind’s horrible behavior and slovenliness was causing the planet to go into another ice age.

In case anyone doesn’t already know, liberalism is actually a manifestation of obsessive-compulsive disorder. It’s an illness.

    • gator69 says:

In still have my old EPA stickers that they handed out in class back in 1971, along with pamphlets on recycling and noise pollution, and we have come a long way since then. The EPA is really no longer necessary, and kids today have no clue just how much our generation did to make things better for them. So much so that the loonies have to attack a greatly beneficial gas necessary for all life on this planet.

      I miss real pollution. 😉

      • I miss other real things.

        • Huh, mute the sound, & scroll down until her face isn’t visible, & suddenly you have a decent video.

        • gator69 says:

I was just talking with a buddy the other day about how sick I am of fake tits and fake teeth. I understand the need for dentures, and there is nothing wrong with chesticle inflation, but the perfectly round weightless manikin chests and 1950’s Mercury grill blindingly white teeth are ridiculous. I guess they are the toupes of the 21st century, and dumb vapid people still think we can’t tell.

        • AndyG55 says:

Where will those reach down to in 20 years !!!?????

        • Andy,

I suspect you got distracted and misplaced your comment. Are you speculating about the reach and mass of the Cordilleran and Laurentide ice sheets? The corresponding discussion thread is here:

Several of us worry about their advancement, especially the bigger one. Their unequal growth could really throw things out of balance.

Gail, I used to spend part of my summers cleaning up the nations first National Scenic Riverway. We pulled cars, refrigerators, tires, propane tanks, water heaters, and even kitchen sinks out of that river, and today it is pristine. It took years of heavy lifting to bring back a national treasure, and it is such an attraction now, that I can only enjoy it in the off season. In summer you can literally walk across the river on the canoes, canoes packed with kids who don’t know the meaning of hard work or pollution.

        • Gail Combs says:

Thanks for your work Gator. I spent some of my time hauling garbage out of caves and backpacking it out of the wilds. Nothing really organized we (cavers and climbers) just did it as a matter of course.

Amazing how most of us ‘Deniers’ are the real conservationists who did the heavy lifting and clean-up back in the day…

    • Jason Calley says:

Hey Mac! “of course, guns were bad, overpopulation was ruining everything”

It must be difficult (even for a so-called “Progressive”) to hold both of those beliefs at the same time. I mean, you would think that if Progressives really saw overpopulation as a crisis, and guns as really dangerous, then they ought to see guns more as a solution instead of a problem…

  14. omanuel says:

It is now time to relax, Steven, and watch the TRAGIC-COMEDY of would-be world tyrants and puppet scientists unfold at the limit of human comprehension:

World leaders tried to save the world and themselves from nuclear annihilation in 1945 by:

    1. Forming the UN to take totalitarian control of society, and

    2. Changing solar and nuclear physics to hide Neutron Repulsion in cores of atoms, planets, stars and galaxies heavier than 150 atomic mass units (where nuclear structure changes [1] to neutrons in the core and neutron-proton pairs at the nuclear surface).

At the limits of comprehension, at the intersection of spiritual and scientific knowledge, an “intelligent and creative Mind” (Max Planck) guides force fields from the Sun’s pulsar core to createand sustain every atom, life and world in the Solar System . . .

a volume of space greater than that of ten billion, billion Earth’s !

I.e., world leaders & puppet scientists tried to hide a force of creation that is incomprehensibly more powerful than anything they could have imagined.

Whether or not we succeed, world leaders will certainly fail to control God’s force of creation.
