Benevolent Dictator Announces One Year Delay In Obamacare

President Obama announced Thursday that his administration will let health insurers extend existing health plans on the individual and small-group markets into 2014. The administrative policy change will let insurers reach out to the millions of Americans being dropped from their plans so that they can renew their insurance for another year while the market adjusts to new Obamacare regulations.

Obama letting people keep canceled health plans for another year – CBS News

Last month he shut down the government rather than accept a one year delay in Obamacare, and called Republicans terrorists for trying to delay it. But today our benevolent dictator has announced that he won’t take your health insurance away for another year.

The US is truly blessed to have such a compassionate Party commissar.

    The Legislating President strikes again…

  2. Don says:

Of course those plans cannot come back as the companies would be in violation of the actual law.

    • squid2112 says:

Even if they could, it will make no difference as to the success of Zeroscare. This law is about as flawed and fraudulent as you can get, and can never work. Congress had better not let this turd get away (again) with circumventing another law.

    • Gamecock says:

And companies have been developing current policies for years.

    • Mike D says:

What he did is say they can still offer them, but does not require them to still offer them.

But the insurers did not price those plans for next year since they weren’t going to offer them. And since insurers have to be financially solvent per federal law, they likely can not offer them without increasing their premiums substantially or they’ll run into regulatory problems. Which puts the insurers in the position of going through with the cancellations, which will then let Obama claim it was the insurers who are at fault.

Won’t be long before he ask for the The Enabling Act (German: Ermächtigungsgesetz) to be passed so he can really get to work fixingthings:

    Reichsleiter is more like it.

He has decided to “allow” people to keep their canceled policies, and to “allow” companies to continue to offer them. For a year.

FOX NEWS ALERT! Those policies cannot be exhumed. Insurance companies have been busy working on other policies, as ordered. If they were to continue the old policy, they would have had to start working on it a year ago. The ship can’t be turned on a whim.

Obama has flipped. He is delusional. He has no authority to “allow” anything. It’s time for DEMOCRATS to start thinking impeachment.

    • Traitor In Chief says:

They want socialism no matter the cost. And since they are getting better and better at controlling elections, soon they will pay no price for their treachery anyway. Then the truly hideous tyranny will begin.

  5. Bob Koss says:

Why would the ins. companies even want to offer the original plans. Seems to me they would be cutting their own throats. Most of those policies were likely held by the healthiest group of people. Giving them their old policy and rate means the exchange will be left with the high cost people. Mostly the sickest people and some that never had ins. before. The original point for the cancellations was to get the healthy into the exchange to defray the costs of the others.

What’s the difference between Obamacare and the Titanic?

The Titanic had an excellent orchestra.

  7. gator69 says:

I’m sure this has nothing to do with next year’s elections.

  8. Bob Koss says:

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Just hours after President Obama announced changes to his health care law to give insurance companies the option to keep offering consumers plans that would otherwise be canceled, Washington state Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler says those changes will not be allowed in our state.

    http://www.komonews.com/news/local/State-rebuts-Obama-plan-to-allow-old-health-insurance-policies-231949931.html

That’s one state not allowing Obummer’s fix. More to come I’m sure.

    • Gamecock says:

Obama saying He will allow it has no effect on the states’ commissions. Obama said he’d send them all a letter, but that means squat.

On November 14, 2013, Obama said, “If you like your insurance plan, you can keep it.”

      Yeah, sure, Barry.

    • Mike D says:

That’s interesting. He does explain the right reason this won’t work, which is the insurers can’t just magically change things now without having to re-price all their policies. Then he falls back on the ridiculous get better plans crap, which is a lie for the vast majority of people affected.

  9. Can he drag this out until past the next election?

  10. gofer says:

Blue Cross of Tenn say they have scrapped the old policies and don’t intend to go back. He has created another mess, now he will blame the insurance companies. He could have done this a long time ago since they knew they would be cancelled.

  11. Fred Allen says:

Several posters beat me to it. This isn’t an Obama delay. This is a Democrat delay to sweep Obamacare under the carpet as an election issue.

  12. gofer says:

“From the date of our entry into WWII to the date of Germany’s surrender is one month LESS than Obama and his Leftist NeoCom cadres had to make their website operational. Obama had more time than it took for our nation’s industrial surge ahead of the invasion of North Africa and Italy, D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge, the race to Berlin, and all while fully engaged on a second warfront in the Pacific” —The Patriot Post.

  13. Jason Calley says:

Did you ever wonder what it would be like to live in a little town where the Chief of Police could get away with arbitrarily deciding who had to obey the law and who got a free pass?

I try to be very accurate in my use of language.

Obama is not our President, and the US is not a Republic. “Presidents” preside over the execution of legislated laws; “Rulers” decide for themselves what the laws are or are not. The old Republic was based on authority granted by the Constitution; the Constitution is no longer in force. Instead we have control of the government by socialist politicians allied with bankers, criminals and lobbyists. Obama is the ruler of a fascist regime, and no, that is not meant to be an insult, but merely an honest description of what we have. It is not hyperbole, just simple truth.

So Hussein shut down his precious government for nothing.

  15. B.C. says:

Where’s Dingy Harry calling Obungles a “terrorist” for his unnecessary shutdown of national parks, monuments and other publicly-owned properties?

As to whether he and the rest of his Marxist minions (along with the Lamestream Lapdogs), they have been working overtime to delay as much of the disaster until after the 2014 elections, hence the delayed “employer mandate”. When that third trimester abortion kicks in, you can say goodbye to what little is left of the American middle class, as well as pretty much everything else. The Great Depression is going to seem like a Sunday picnic in the park compared to the total collapse of the US economy, especially with all of the “urban youths” being charged up by The Great Unifier and his fellow Leftist race-pimps. Keep your powder dry, ’cause it’s going to get very ugly.

  16. Gamecock says:

The question is, will the legacy press let him get away with it?

    OF COURSE THEY WILL !!!

    Here’s the AP story:

    http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2013/11/14/4464958/obamacare-enrollment-low-democrats.html#.UoV0EH-85SY

‘Obama said the administration no longer would require insurance companies to jettison current individual and small group plans that fall short of the minimum coverage standards under the law, effectively shifting responsibility for cancellations to the industry itself. The change would be good for just one year, though senior administration officials said it could be extended if problems persist.

Speaking of the millions of people whose coverage is being scrapped, Obama said, “What we want to do is to be able to say to these folks, you know what, the Affordable Care Act is not going to be the reason why insurers have to cancel your plan.”‘

AP seems to have no problem with Obama’s conspicuously trying to shift blame from him to the insurance companies. The insurance companies have ALREADY CANCELED 5,000,000 policies. Obama, extra-legally, says you can keep them. Hey, Barry, THEY’VE ALREADY BEEN CANCELED.

  17. Larry Fields says:

Many of the people losing their health insurance are relatively healthy. Under FULL-BLOWN Obamacare, these folks will pay more to subsidize insurance for unhealthy people.

If insurance companies temporarily grandfather in existing healthy policy-holders who have reasonable premiums, then NEW healthy policyholders coerced into the system will pay even more than they would without the grandfather clause. Otherwise the insurance companies would go belly-up.

President Dogpile’s latest announcement will not solve any real problems. However it will put him in a position to divert attention away from the Democrats’ disastrous health care plan, and to shift some of the blame onto the ‘evil’ insurance companies, when recently dropped policy-holders are not reinstated. Machiavelli would be proud!
