These oil companies already pay billions in taxes and he wants to tack on more which is only passed on to the consumer. Are they so stupid to not recognize it’s all of us who pay for it?

You have to remember anything that disrupts the flow of energy will cost more and the cost will always be passed down to make the bottom line.
There probably are few extra costs for the gas station. You just have a pipe from the local gas company feeding the station, a compressor to bring the pressure up to a few thousand psi and possibly a small amount of high pressure storage to buffer busy periods. I would say that is probably cheaper than buried double walled fiberglass gasoline tanks in the ground. The real problem is that every car that pulls in will need to have high pressure tanks in their vehicles to contain the methane and that will add several thousand dollars (~$5K) per vehicle. But if natural gas stays cheap, even that cost might be recovered in 5 or 6 years. But if you think that you’d be bypassing the oil companies, thing again. The oil companies have few crude oil reserves. They just process crude oil sold by sovereign states. What the oil companies do have are a lot of natural gas reserves and they are more than happy to have us all buy more.
Yep, and it’s why municipalities are going all in to upgrade their water systems everywhere, because of few extra cost.

Sean, don’t know where you live, but for the majority of the country there is NO “local gas company “. We have a 500 gallon propane tank in the back yard that the “local gas company” fills from a truck (from ~40 miles away) a few times a year. Running all those gas lines would make the Keystone pipeline look like a high school science fair project.

There is absolutely no need to subsidize natural gas as a fuel. If it is cheap enough, which it is, it will find it’s way into transportation just as it did in power generation. There’s over 350,000 cars on the road in Germany that run on CNG or Propane/Autogas since it costs only about half of what gasoline goes for.
Here in Australia there was a large swing to LPG for fuel because is was cheaper than gasoline, since it was not taxed as much.
Many taxis were converted to LPG in the 80’s and 90’s because it saved them a lot of money. The conversion kits were about $2000 at the time. There was also some help from government subsidies.
LPG for vehicles is less popular now as the gas supply is in a bit of a hiatus as old fields run out and new ones haven’t yet hit their straps, so the price is higher at present, but I expect there will a new surge when the big LNG projects commission in Qld and WA in the nearish future.
That has the sound of perhaps, err more likely, err probably, ENRON till the price is right and then there is all of a sudden Gas everywhere, at the new price of course that’ll never go down again.
That is probably wishful thinking.
All current LNG projects under development are for export, and current domestic supply contracts are not being renewed as they expire, as it is more profitable to export the gas.
Add to this the fact that the bleeding-hearts are trying to close down CSG – and prices for gas can only keep rising.
LNG easily found its own way into the market in Ukraine. a meaningful share of their cars run on it.
