It Is Called Weather

After a hot summer, Bjorn Lomborg changes his mind and wants to spend $100 billion dollars to appease the global warming gods.

Bjorn Lomborg

‘Sceptical environmentalist’ and critic of climate scientists to declare global warming a chief concern facing world”

The world’s most high-profile climate change sceptic is to declare that global warming is “undoubtedly one of the chief concerns facing the world today” and “a challenge humanity must confront”, in an apparent U-turn that will give a huge boost to the embattled environmental lobby.

    Looking for funding?

  2. Eric Anderson says:

Well, that’s too bad. I’ve previously Lomborg as one of the few individuals who had the capability to clearly articulate why, even assuming global warming is a problem, it should not be at the top of the list. We’ll have to wait to see whether his book presents much of a U-turn or if he still clearly states that global warming is way down the list in terms of priorities.

If he has made a U-turn, it will be hard to see where his brain cramp came from — certainly it doesn’t seem anything has happened in the last year that would strengthen one’s convictions about CAGW, while on the other hand there has been plenty to suggest that CAGW is overblown.

I hope he’s not just looking for approbation by the “consensus” community or, worse, seeking funding.

  3. Eyes Wide Open says:

Lomberg was always a liability anyway because he’d drunk the kool-aid and bought into the nonsense science from the get-go. Good riddance!

  4. Nolo Contendere says:

Dang. And I bought his books….

  5. Tufty says:

If $100 billion dollars is enough to fix climate change issues, then he’s perhaps saying that climate change is no big deal. We’ve spent more than that already – so job done – time to move on.

  6. C Monster says:

Guess he wasn’t getting invited to the parties anymore. Poor Bjorn.

  7. Toby Joyce says:

Lomborg has no credibility with anyone in climate science or denialism. Patience with him in climate science ran out a long time ago. A sudden conversion does not gain him anything. Some of the media think he is “hip” but that will not last.

Denialists hate him because he was never sufficiently enthusiastic for their obscurantist agenda.

The suspicion is that he wants to be an “honest broker” and earn big money from carbon industries AND alternative energy industries.

Avoid at all costs. The sooner we hear the last of him the better.

Steve, just heard about your blog from WUWT. Congrats. I’ll be dropping by frequently.

As for Lomborg, this is indeed a strange time for him to upgrade the “menace” from CAGW, what with the hits the IPCC, “Hokey Shtick”, and UEA have been taking lately. Maybe he should re-read his own books.
