Perhaps you’re not writing specifically about Jacksonville Illinois, which is in the American heartland, about 250 miles south of Chicago, which is at the southern end of Lake Michigan. Otherwise a large body of water like Lake Michigan can produce a lot of temperature differential from beside it compared to a location just a few miles away.
