That phrase is loaded, I mean the person who stated it was loaded.
I suspect the reason the past has a non-normal distribution towards a colder past, is because it is randomly made a normal distribution by warming the distribution of the more current temperatures.need I add: /sarc
What about the urbanization that has taken place between 1960 and present surrounding many airport stations? I suppose that does not count because it does not fit their agenda.
If NASA/GISS were honest, the past temperatures should be warmed because more weather stations are now located in urban, suburban, and airport locations that are subject to UHI than in the past. The purpose of the changes is to create a rising temperature trend just like Steve has shown again and again.
