That was a moving scene in Gladiator. The words were spoken before a coliseum battle, where a group of “convict” gladiators (“led” by Maximus [Russell Crowe]) were consigned to almost certain death (surprise!). Maybe Steven means for the words of the besieged gladiators to represent Republicans today (if we stay together, we survive…)? Ok, I’ve dug up the scene where the above words are spoken by Crowe:
