Then when kids act out what they have been taught, the same leftists who created the problem immediately blame guns.

adam gallon, you are a tool. 1st, no “automatic” weapons. 2nd, no law crafted by man could ever keep guns out of the hands of a crazy, determined person hands.
RULE: you can beat a stupid(crazy) person, you can beat a determined person, a stupid(crazy) person is unbeatable.
They WILL find a way to aquire the weapons. Laws do NOT apply to those that are determined to commit violence.

We also reward every child even when they fail. Coming 9th in a race of 10 is celebrated just as much as coming 1st.

Yes, we need guns to protect the innocent, lots of guns. Anders Breivik would have been dodging bullets in my world, and not sending them at unarmed kids.
If guns were prevalent, he never would have considered doing what he did. The reason he did it was because he knew he would have the opportunity to kill a lot of unarmed people without getting hurt himself. And now he pays the price with cold coffee in jail.
Guns are more prevalent in the US than almost anywhere else, yet over 300 children under the age of 14 are killed by firearm in the USA each year.
It is impossible to ban firearms, however, it is possible to require and enforce that they are kept under lock and key.
No it is not! What value is a weapon if it is locked up all the time! The answer is teaching values to the younger people and living our lives based on a value system.
Steven, you are right. It does come down to parenting in the first instance and what society teaches people in the second instance. I suppose that some people are more prone to violent acts than others, but they can be taught to control themselves. I love the saying: “What gets rewarded gets done”. The opposite is also true.
If we want people to commit to peaceful existence, we need to reward them when they are peaceful. In households across the world, including North America, parents reward their children for acting out. Children want affirmation and attention from their parents. If they cannot get affirmation, they will strive for attention. However, in many homes, parents are so busy with their personal communication devices, facebook, TV watching, etc. that they ignore their children. The only time the children get attention is when they act out. Little Johnny or Suzie gets attention from Mom or Dad when he/she bites or hits his sibling, steals a toy or whatever. If he/she is an only child, they get attention from breaking things (objects or rules). They are taught that if they do something wrong they get what they want, which is their parent’s attention.
At school, they learn that bullies get their way. Anti-bullying legislation and policies are a load of … . Children learn at school that even if they report a bully, their life will not improve. The administration (teacher, principal, anti-bullying committee .. etc.) will coddle the bully, and then the bully will come back and get revenge on the person who reported them.
We teach our kids that acting out, breaking rules and violence (bullying) are the way to rewards.
And then there are our jihadist friends who promise the most luxurious places in heaven are reserved for those who kill innocent people, as long as they are not Muslims, or their particular sect of Muslims. This is, of course, the extreme.
So, the solution is in our homes and in our schools. Reward those who are doing what you want. If your kid is sitting and playing nicely, walk up to them and give them a hug and compliment them on what they are doing. Withdraw privileges when they act out. It’s not that hard actually.
